Parameters to consider when selecting high voltage fuses

High-voltage fuses are current-sensitive devices that protect electrical equipment in circuits by blowing when short-circuit or overload currents are passed. It can be used to protect lines, transformers, motors and voltage transformers in small capacity installations from 3KV to 35KV. It is usually installed on the high voltage side of the distribution transformer or the distribution branch line.

Parameters to consider when selecting high voltage fuses

1.Rated current
2.Applied voltage (AC or DC)
3.Size, e.g. length, diameter or height
4.Ambient temperature
5.Maximum fault current
6.Impulse, inrush current, inrush current, starting current and circuit transients
7.Current and circuit transients
8.Fuse breaking capacity
9.Required agency approvals such as UL, CSA, VDE, METI, MITI
10.Fuse characteristics (mounting type/form factor, ease of removal, axial leads, visual indication, etc.)
11.Fuseholder characteristics
12.Pre-production application testing and verification
Considering these factors when selecting a high voltage fuse will essentially allow you to select a suitable high voltage fuse.
