What are the parts of fuse and what are the materials used to make it?

Fuse is an electrical component that ensures the safe operation of an electrical circuit. Nowadays, with the development of technology, there are more and more kinds of fuses, and their shapes and sizes are very different from those of traditional fuses. A small fuse can act as a “safety guard” in a circuit. We can't help but wonder what its components are, and what kind of material makes a small fuse play such a big role in the circuit?

Fuse is an electrical component that ensures the safe operation of an electrical circuit. Nowadays, with the development of technology, there are more and more kinds of fuses, and their shapes and sizes are very different from those of traditional fuses. A small fuse can act as a “safety guard” in a circuit. We can’t help but wonder what its components are, and what kind of material makes a small fuse play such a big role in the circuit?

Fuse components

General fuse consists of three parts:

First, the melt part.

It is the core of the fuse, when the melting plays the role of cutting off the current. The same class, the same specification of the melt, their material should be the same, the same size, the resistance value as small as possible and to be consistent, and most importantly, the melting characteristics to be consistent;

Second, the electrode part.

Usually there are two, it is an important part of the melt and circuit connection, it must have good electrical conductivity, should not produce obvious installation contact resistance;

Third, the bracket part.

Fuse melt is generally slim and soft, the role of the bracket is to fix the melt and make the three parts of a rigid whole for easy installation, use, it must have good mechanical strength, insulation, heat resistance and flame retardant, should not produce fracture, deformation, combustion and short-circuit and other phenomena in use;

Fuses used in electric circuits and high-power equipment not only have the three parts of a general fuse, but also have an arc extinguishing device.Because the circuit protected by this type of fuse is not only a large working current, and when the fuse is blown, the voltage at both ends is also very high. Often the fuse has melted (blown) or even vaporized, but the current is not cut off. The reason is that in the melting of a moment in the voltage and current under the action of the two electrodes of the fuse arc phenomenon. The arc extinguishing device must have a strong insulation and good thermal conductivity, and is negatively charged. Quartz sand is commonly used to extinguish the arc material.

In addition, there are some fuses have a blowing indicator device, its role is when the fuse is blown after a certain appearance of its own changes, easy to be found by the maintenance staff.

Production materials

Fuse often used materials fuse must be easy to melt the wire, in order to melt in time when the current is large, play a protective role. So aluminum antimony alloy and other low melting point alloy is the main component of the fuse material.
